New Liberty Candidate Lex Luthor Speaking At Gotham University Debate
Things began to heat up, as Metropolis business magnate Lex Luthor riled up his opponents in an eventful debate last evening. The debate took place in the Sampson Emmitt Auditorium in Gotham University, where the Democratic, Republican and New Liberty nominees were each given an opportunity to make their positions clear. Luthor has always been a household name, not only as the CEO of a company with many branches integral to Metropolis but also the nationally popular fast food chain Big Belly Burger. An unexpected combatant to enter the ring, Luthor has run a highly successful campaign; having the most support for a third party candidate since Ross Perot in 1992.
Republican candidate Bob Ridgeway and Democratic candidate Martin Suarez found themselves butting heads as they discussed immigration. Partway through this exchange, the New Liberty candidate began chuckling. When the moderator asked Mr. Luthor what he was laughing at, he simply replied, "It's just this reminds me of the petty arguing we used to get in Metro U." The party candidates took offence to this comparison, and both demanded he retracted it. After the nominees complained to no avail, Lex Luthor gave another provocative response, "See, now you agree on something." The moderator had to move the debate on, and changed the subject to the candidates' pledges. Luthor took this opportunity to speak up and voice his concerns on global warming and tax.
Our political analysts say that Luthor planned this move, choosing to lambaste his opponents just before he was given an opportunity to voice his views. When asked to speak on this claim, the presidential candidate had this to say, "I'm a politician, not a talking head. The problem with the discourse in this day and age is that it's become too much of a ping-pong match of party politics. It's not about what they believe, it's what their party wants them to. Politics should be like our country, independent." Luthor continues to garner more support in the popularity polls. In the Gotham Gazette, an opinion poll returned with a result of 36% Gothamites saying they would vote for Luthor over Ridgeway or Suarez. States on the East Coast such as New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and his home state of Delaware have been his largest support base and political analysts are saying that one or two may even vote for him as a majority.
